Sebelius Resigns after Flawed Obamacare Site
Kathleen Sebelius resigned Friday as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services after presiding for four years over the flawed rollout of the Affordable Care Act website. President Obama nominated Sylvia Mathews Burwell, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, to replace her, officials said.
Sebelius decided to resign and was not forced out, according to officials, but her departure comes after scathing criticism from what Republicans in Congress called a lack of leadership. The White House administration worried that issues with the Obamacare website would damage the president’s legacy and hurt Democratic incumbents who supported the legislation in the midterm elections this fall.
