“X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Bryan Singer has been charged with the sexual abuse of a 17-year-old boy in 1999. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, alleges Singer used threats and forced intoxication to rape Michael F. Egan III at parties in both Los Angeles and Hawaii.

Egan, now 31, moved to Los Angeles as a teenager to further his acting career. According to the complaint filed, he was lured to parties where he was abused by a group of men who claimed to be able to ruin his career.

In reference to the abuse, the complaint states: “Defendant Singer did so as part of a group of adult males similarly positioned in the entertainment industry that maintained and exploited boys in a sordid sex ring.”

The complaint says the acts took place at the home of Marc Collins-Rector and Chad Shackley, though neither is named as a defendant in the suit.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Singer’s lawyer, Marty Singer called the claims “completely without merit.”

"We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit. It is obvious that this case was filed in an attempt to get publicity at the time when Bryan's new movie (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is about to open in a few weeks," he said.
