Top 7 TV Show Theme Songs
We all know the feeling we get when we hear our favorite TV show’s theme song come on. You’re ready to watch the brand new episode... or view it for the twenty-ninth time. Many shows even appropriated other songs for their show’s opening. These were just normal songs that became anthems, signifying the start of a new show, a new season, and a new obsession.
Here are the top 7 TV show theme songs:
1. “Where You Lead”
Who can forget "Gilmore Girls" -- the quick dialogue, obtuse references, hot boyfriends, etc. Most of all, no one can forget the theme song as sung by Carole King and her daughter Louise Goffin. Though originally from the 70s and inspired by a Bible verse, the track was re-recorded and fit perfectly into the WB comedy.
2. “I’ll Be There for You”
“Friends” was a show that made its stars like Courtney Cox and Matthew Perry household name. The show even made Jennifer Aniston a big enough star that celeb magazines feel compelled to “break the news” about her wedding/baby news every week. Another thing the show accomplished was making its theme song, by The Rembrandts, an anthem for twenty-somethings everywhere.
3. “I Don’t Wanna Wait”
The teen soap opera "Dawson’s Creek" needed the utmost dramatic theme song so they chose Paula Cole’s song, “I Don’t Wanna Wait.” The track remained on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for over a year.
4. “Teardrop”
Every episode of “House” insured mystery and suspense, but the theme song by Massive Attack always preluded the show. This eerie track was released about six years before the show’s debut.
5. “Boss of Me”
The They Might Be Giants song was technically written for "Malcolm In The Middle," but became a hit in general as well. It not only won a Grammy, but also became a hit in Australia, England, and elsewhere in Europe.
6. “California”
The “OC” was the definition of Southern California. Thus, it is fitting that the song adapted the song “California” that could perfectly be played while on the way to the beach or shopping at Fashion Island.
7. “I Don’t Wanna Be”
The angsty show “One Tree Hill” used Gavin DeGraw’s mega hit “I Don’t Wanna Be” for its opening. The song about finding yourself fit perfectly into the show’s dramatic context. This is DeGraw’s best-selling track to date and is still played quite often played on radio stations.
