Autumn is a rough time for pumpkins. If we’re not
carving them up or
chucking them for sport, we’re thinking of new ways to eat them.
And not just pie and lattes – no, this year’s pumpkin creations are endless. Having a pumpkin bagel? Spread some pumpkin cream cheese on it! Pumpkin latte not pumpkin-y enough? Add some steamed pumpkin soy milk!
But there’s no need to feel bad about indulging a pumpkin food craving – pumpkin products usually don’t contain much pumpkin at all. Products with “pumpkin spice” usually get their warm, comforting flavor from cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice.
Here are six delicious (and pumpkin-friendly) products to try and where you can find them:
1. Silly Cow Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate
This semi-sweet powder will add a hint of pumpkin to your morning brew or spice up a hot chocolate. Or sprinkle it on whipped cream atop pumpkin pie and serve at Thanksgiving!
2. Twinings Pumpkin Spice Chai
Pumpkin spice isn’t all taste; it also smells amazing. Brew a cup of pumpkin tea to experience the nostalgic aroma. Twinings makes a black chai tea flavored with pumpkin spice, and Zhena’s Gypsy Tea sells a caffeine-free rooibos with pumpkin spice and vanilla. Add sugar and a dash of cream for a homemade tea latte.
3. Ghirardelli Pumpkin Spice Caramel Squares
If you can’t commit to a whole latte but still want that pumpkin fix, Ghirardelli’s bite-sized squares are the perfect treat. The milk chocolate squares are available year-round, but the pumpkin filling is a seasonal special.
4. Nuts 'n More Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter
Pumpkin enthusiasts might be rolling their eyes at pumpkin-flavored drinks and chocolate, so here’s something different: pumpkin spice peanut butter. A two tablespoon serving packs 14 grams of protein–another great reason to give it a try. Though it’s not on this list, there is almost certainly some pumpkin jelly out there to go with it.
5. Kemp’s Pumpkin Ice Cream Sandwiches
Pumpkin may seem like a flavor best served warm, but that didn’t stop Kemp’s from releasing a limited run of pumpkin ice cream sandwiches. The frozen treats pair Kemp’s pumpkin pie ice cream with vanilla wafers.
6. Krispy Kreme Pumpkin Spice Doughnut
Does this need an explanation? Get thee to a Krispy Kreme – these are on a more
limited run this year, and they won’t be available until December as they have in the past.
