'Modern Family' Recap: The Late Show

In this episode, all the parents plan to have dinner at a fancy, new restaurant in town. Unfortunately, the plans get a little complicated when it appears that no one is capable of arriving on time.
Claire and Phil Dunphy (Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell) struggle to leave the house in a timely manner because they get into an argument about Luke (Nolan Gould). Phil told Luke he would be able to stay home alone now that he's 14, but Claire objects by noting every single emergency situation that Luke could possible face while alone.
Once Phil finally persuades Claire to leave, Luke is already so frightened by Claire's former fears, that Phil and Claire are met with paintball gun fire when they return home for an impromptu check on Luke. Seeing that he isn't capable of staying home alone for the night, the Dunphy's drive him to Jay's house, where Haley (Sarah Hyland) is babysitting baby Joe.
In the Pritchett household, Jay and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) are also running late to the dinner party because Gloria not only arrives home late, but then she has difficulty picking out an outfit that is fit for the occasion.
Jay promises himself that he will stay calm and allow Gloria her own space and time to prepare, but he abandons that plan after Gloria tries to alter her look for a third time. Jay then rushes Gloria out of the house by making her feel bad for making the rest of the family wait. Unbeknownst to him, the rest of the family is fashionably late as well.

However when the girls can't pick a winner, Cameron shames Mitchell into changing his clothes. Mitchell exacts revenge rather quickly by giving Cameron a soda to drink that he briefly shook. The explosion of soda forces Cameron out of the outfit as well.
Once both men have changed, Cameron and Mitchell make their way to the dinner, but by this point, everyone was so late that the hostess of the restaurant has given away their table.
Luckily, a taco stand across the street from the restaurant is still open. The gang goes to the taco stand and enjoys a delicious meal while working out all of the small interpersonal issues that persisted throughout the episode. And if that wasn't cute enough, the group also ends with a little harmonizing of "Midnight Train To Georgia" that'll make every viewer miss their own modern family.
