'How I Met Your Mother' Recap: Knight Vision

Since his last girlfriend, Ted's game has been pretty much non-existent, so he decides to find a date for the wedding weekend to put an end the streak. Barney agrees with Ted and inspires him with a story from the classic tale of "Indiana Jones." Both bros reenact a scene in a dream sequence, where Barney is the title character and Ted's the sidekick. Ted ends up exploding after drinking something, thus beginning his bad luck for the rest of the night.
Yup, it was so bad, his luck shifted from a dream sequence to real life.
Barney and Robin update him on his possible options, among them Robin's college roommate Sophia and Barney's mom's best friend's daughter Cassie (played by the aca-amazing Anna Camp of "Pitch Perfect" fame). Both recommend Sophia, but Cassie immediately approaches Ted and he's sold on her. But according to a ghost from the "Indiana Jones" scene, Ted chose poorly.

Drifting away from Ted's love life for a moment, Lily tries to make conversation with Barney and Robin's minister for the wedding. He's crabby and comments that Lily is not covered up enough. However, she lies and tells her engaged friends that he's great.
Marshall is caught up in telling Lily about his judge position in New York. His road trip buddy Daphne asks why he has yet to tell her, and he says he'd rather do it in person. Daphne asks if he already knows what to tell her but Marshall claims he'll just wing it. He then realizes that it's a bad idea.
Ted and Cassie seem to be getting along. She seems like the perfect choice, but their perfect interaction is interrupted by a phone call from Cassie's work. Turns out she got fired and that everyone hates her now. She goes from being the ideal wedding date to a hysterical, sobbing mess. Ted tries to leave before this disaster includes him, but alas, he's stuck.
Lily worriedly tells Barney and Robin that she may have upset the minister after telling him the story of how she and Marshall met. You know the story, the one where Lily walks towards Marshall's dorm and knocks on the door to ask for someone to fix her stereo. Then he opened the door and it was love at first sight. Perfection.
It didn't feel that way to the minister, though. Robin confesses to her and Barney telling him how they first met…except their story sounded a lot like Marshall and Lily's. They felt the need to lie in order to get the minister's approval to get married in his church, which apparently "has cute coming out the wazoo".
Ted has had it and attempts to make a run for it while Cassie has her little freak out, but he feels rude doing just that. He suggests going to the dining room for one more drink. Unfortunately, that's where Cassie's parents are sitting, and Ted is forced to join them for a meal.

The minister confronts Robin and Barney about the supposed story of how they met, taking their side and accusing Lily of stealing their story! They suggest that Lily's been "drinking drugs" and therefore took the story as hers. So she decides to get some revenge and steal the story of how Barney and Robin met. That happened in the pilot episode, where Ted saw Robin (or in this case, Lily) across a crowded room and fell in love with her almost instantly, then Barney (or Marshall) as his wingman introduced them.
Finally, the truth is revealed and the minister gets fed up with the happy couple's constant lying.
Even Cassie's parents are fed up with Cassie. Ted is really regretting this. He feels this evening could not get any worse. Then the bill comes and he has to pay all of it. Doesn't stop there! Then he and Cassie bump into Sophia, his other date option, and Cassie's ex, Wesley, who she has been crying about non-stop.
Marshall hears Daphne's story, how she fights for the good guys, and he is more motivated to tell Lily the truth. He asks where she works, and it turns out she's a lobbyist for a big oil company, meaning that she is who Marshall hopes to destroy. He gets upset, and accuses her of manipulating him in order to not become a judge.
Robin and Barney are denied by the minister, and he does not allow them to use the cute little church they had hoped for. They are upset at first, but then try to explain to him that he should not be appalled by how they met, but glad that they found each other. The couple goes on to talk about all the crazy and scandalous things they've done, and it leaves the minister in shock. So much so that he dies from it…literally.

Ted is thrilled, and after bumping into Grace, the third and final choice for who will accompany this weekend, he has his eyes on someone new. Barney and Robin inform him of the death of their minister, and so Ted decides to make a toast in honor of him. While he does, Cassie walks in the room and starts crying again. Apparently, the minister was her uncle. Ted leaves Grace and goes to comfort Cassie, sealing his fate for the rest of the weekend.
Ted says that although he chose poorly the entire night, he actually made smart decisions, for he did not hook up with anyone at the wedding and it lead to him meeting the Mother.
The episode ends with a bit of a cliffhanger: out of anger, Daphne decided to text Lily with the news of Marshall's new job, and the last thing we see is his phone ringing, possibly his wife calling to confront him.
The preview for next week does not indicate how Lily feels about all this, but it does show that the Farhampton Inn is not as picturesque as imagined. It's got ghosts! Tune in next week to see what it's all about, on October 28th at 8PM on CBS.
