'Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues' Releases New Trailer And Ice Cream Flavor

While Will Ferrell’s announcement was a complete surprise, the promotions in the interim have remained fairly steady. Since that episode of “Conan” last March, the released material has included photos of the wind-swept cast, posters, teaser trailers, the first official trailer, a Dodge commercial starring Ron Burgundy himself and even a museum exhibit in Washingon D.C.
With only two months before the film’s release, “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues” has decided to make itself even more visible. This time it comes from an extra-long trailer and a new Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor.
This morning’s trailer release gives us a two and a half minute look at the absurdity to look forward to in the sequel. Replete with Jerry curls, jokes about the changing political climate and the requisite guitar intro for “Don’t Stop Believin’”, this trailer serves more as a vehicle for the humor rather than actually previewing the movie. The first trailer gave us the premise, the conflict, and more hints about the story. With that information in the ether already, then, all this trailer really needs to do is get everyone excited about the movie. They could have made the trailer last 30 seconds and only include the first clip and it would still accomplish its goal.
In food-related promotions, The Hollywood Reporter announced how “Anchorman 2” is joining the likes of “30 Rock” and “The Colbert Report” by coming out with a corresponding flavor from Ben & Jerry’s. The “Scotchy Scotch Scotch” flavor avoids including real alcohol in favor or lots of butterscotch (butterscotch ice cream with butterscotch swirls, to be exact). THR explains how the announcement happened at New York City’s Pier 36 “at an event that included a performance from Anchor Man's Nutty The Waterskiing Squirrel and a legion of Ron Burgundy lookalikes.” The amount of salon-ready hair on that pier must have been overwhelming, but thankfully everyone can now drown his or her emotions in a classy pint of Burgundy-approved ice cream.
"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" comes to theaters Dec. 20.
