Sexual Assault Settlement Reached For Occidental College Students

In April, at least 50 people filed a federal complaint against Occidental College for treating sexual assault allegations with indifference, discouraging victims from reporting instances of rape, dragging out investigations, and failing to insatiate serious consequences for those found guilty.
The college has recently reached a financial settlement with at least 10 of the students said the Los Angeles Times.
According to the settlement reached, the women involved in the case were to be paid reparations, providing that they do not publicly discuss the Occidental’s handling of their case.
It appears that students from USC and other universities have lost much of the rage and passion that had spurned them to file the Title IX complaints last spring. No longer do student protests line the stairs nor do rape victims try as militantly try to spread their stories.
These ten-or-so young women at Occidental College may be among the first to find a monetary sum enough to buy their silence on the matter, but it remains to be seen whether other students at the other schools will feel the same way.
