'The Heat' Movie Poster Promotes Shameful Photoshopping Of Melissa McCarthy

Paul Feig, also McCarthy's director in "Bridesmaids," openly defended her when Rex Reed tossed insults at the actress' appearance in "Identity Thief." Now, however, Feig is the one targeted for weight-shaming.
The American version of the movie poster is acceptable, but the UK version seems like it was done by an amateur. The only part that was "fixed" is McCarthy's face, making her look very unlike herself. A few comments from the public are that the new face has traces of Sandra Bullock's features and the dramatic weight loss makes the head look miniscule in comparison to the body.
The most disappointing part of this scandal, besides how downright unskilled the photoshopper is, is the motive behind it. The selling point between Bullock and McCarthy's characters is that they are character foils of one another. One is slim, uptight, and uncool. The other is larger, carefree, and badass. This altered image represents a larger need to conform to what looks more appealing, rather than to promote this pair of opposites.
It is evident from this incident that the presentation of body images continues to be a dominating force of our society. Rather than be celebrated for her confidence, McCarthy is crushed for it.
