An eight-year-old boy who was killed during the blasts at the Boston Marathon on Monday was identified by authorities as Martin Richard from Dorchester, Mass.

Richard was one of three people who died during Monday’s attack and 176 injured.

Richard’s mother, Denise, was reported to have suffered brain injury and underwent surgery Monday night. Richard’s six-year-old sister was also seriously injured and reportedly lost a leg.

The Richard family were at the race to cheer on friends who were running.

Massachusetts Rep. Stephen Lynch said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that he has spoken with Richard’s father, Bill Richard.

“The dad is a runner, but he wasn’t running yesterday,” Lynch said. “They were there to support some of their friends who were running.”

The Boston Globe reported that friends of Richard’s family gathered Monday night at Tavolo Restaurant in Dorchester in honor of the eight-year-old boy who was killed earlier that day.

Richard’s neighbor, Betty Delorey told the AP that the boy used to love to climb trees in the neighborhood and play outside his home.
