Students in Newtown returned to school Tuesday, just one day after funerals began for victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Sandy Hook Elementary, where gunman Adam Lanza killed 20 children and six adults, remained closed while the rest of Newtown's schools prepare to reopen.

Students of Sandy Hook will not yet return to school. Classes will later resume at the unused Chalk Hill School in Monroe.

On Monday, the first two of a weeklong proceeding of funerals took place.

Noah Pozner and Jack Pinto, both 6-years-old, were buried Monday afternoon in white coffins.

Police presence was increased as a precautionary measure at Pozner's funeral at the Green funeral home in Fairfield. According to the NY Times, Fairfield Police Lt. James Perez said they received nonspecific threats of protests, "stupid comments" on the Internet and social media.

Pinto, a New York Giants fan, was laid to rest in a Victor Cruz jersey. Pozner's service was marked by teddy bears left by mourners.

Funerals for James Mattioli and Jessica Rekos are expected to be held Tuesday.
