U.S. Gymnast Carly Patterson Ties The Knot
VIDEO: Trading a walk down the balance beam for a walk down the aisle, Olympic gymnast Carly Patterson is now off the market.
According to People, the 2004 gold medalist wed fiancé Mark Caldwell, a consultant, in Dallas's Main Street Park on Saturday. The bride donned a white Vera Wang gown and Jimmy Choo shoes as her father walked her to her soon-to-be husband.
The pair got engaged in January of this year, but Patterson knew it was love over three years ago.
"This might sound cliché, but after two weeks of dating Mark I knew he was a completely different from any other guy I've ever met. Mark is handsome, loving and he makes me laugh. He is a great support system and motivator in my life. I feel so lucky and fortunate that I get to spend forever with my best friend and the love of my life," the 24-year-old explained.
After the 250-person ceremony, the duo housed their reception at Dallas's premiere wedding go-to, The Main Room. Surrounded by hydrangeas, orchids, Ecuadorian roses, and tulips, guests dined on comfort-food classics with a twist including gourmet versions of mac and cheese and chicken and waffles as well as a carving station and taco bar.
Patterson told People that they wanted to stick with a Southern theme for the affair in honor of her Louisiana upbringing, even offering Koozies in the reception's silver, gold, green and pearl colors. Each was inscribed with phrases true to the theme, including a Cajun expression meaning "Let the good times roll" and others saying, "A love brewed down South."
The newlywed gushed about her excitement for the future with her brand-new husband, telling the magazine, "Mark and I had the most incredible night of our lives celebrating with all of our close friends and family. We are so excited to start this journey together and so blessed to have found each other."
