The United States told Iran to stop shipping weapons to Syria after fears rose that Iran is increasing the conflict between Bashar al-Assad's regime and opposition fighters.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked that neighboring countries block the flow of weapons, reports The Daily Beast.

The U.S. has already given about $45 million in nonlethal aid to opposition forces.

Iranian state media was told by a Revolutionary Guard commander that elite forces were in Syria, but not in combat roles, according to CNN.
