The United States denied visas to 20 Iranian government officials who planned to attend the U.N. General Assembly.

The U.S. did not give a reason for the denials, but some officials have travel bans due to Iranian nuclear program sanctions, reports The Daily Beast.

Around 160 visas were requested.

Two of the denied visas were for ministers, reports Reuters.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a regular at the General Assembly and is scheduled to give a speech Wednesday.

The U.S. generally has a policy of issuing visas for delegation members, regardless of disputes. It does occasionally refuse entry to some from Iran, though, according to Reuters.
