Intense Heat Wave Continues To Dominate Parts Of The U.S.

Temperatures of over 100°F are expected in cities like Philadelphia and Chicago over this weekend, as residents of the Mid-West and the Mid-Atlantic seaboard prepare for another round of dehabilitating heat.
The heat wave is not the only thing affecting people though, as sudden and severe storms last week compounded the effects of the heat by knocking out power to many residents in the mid-Atlantic region. As recently as Saturday, residents in West Virginia, Ohio, and Michigan still did not have power, according to CBS.
The combined effects of the heat and the weather: upwards of 36 fatalities, according to the New York Times.
Alongside the human loss of life are the other casualties of the extreme weather. Roads and other pieces of infrastructure are cracking apart in the face of the such intense heat, and crops across the Mid-West are shriveling up without sufficient moisture.
There does seem to be some relief in sight. CNN reports that the National Weather Service is predicting a cold front to move through the most affected regions as soon as Saturday.
But with temperatures still expected to rise into the 100's through Saturday and Sunday, any relief to heat wave residents will only become evident in the upcoming week.
