"Grey's Anatomy" Recap: Dark Was The Night

The episode opened with Teddy playing the worried wife in the emergency room as the doctors tried to determine the source of Henry’s bleeding. Dr. Webber took over the case, with Teddy breathing down his neck at all times.
Meredith received the phone call she’d been waiting for from the social worker. But there was no good news as she found out that the court canceled their hearing date, meaning Derek and Meredith were most likely not going to get Zola back.
Meanwhile, Cali’s patient who was in recovery from back surgery was having a hard time recuperating. And as she went to leave the hospital with her husband and son, something went terribly wrong and she collapsed. Teddy later found out in the OR that a screw from her back surgery was piercing her heart, a detrimental mistake that left Cali distraught.
Arizona had two large cases this week as she juggled a boy who was attacked by a dog and a baby at another hospital who needed to be transported to Seattle Grace. She left it up to Meredith and Karev to retrieve the baby who was having a rough time breathing due to the trachea and esophagus being connected.
Turns out Henry was bleeding in his lungs. Teddy wanted a state of the art laser surgery to be done (who knew lasers were capable of lung surgery) but Webber didn’t know how to perform such a procedure. And since she had to perform surgery on Cali’s dying patient, she decided Cristina would do it but they would cover Henry’s face so that she wouldn’t feel any pressure.
Meredith and Karev arrived at the other hospital that, with its lack of up to date resources, felt like walking into a time warp. Even they found it hard to keep the baby alive as the hospital didn’t have the proper equipment they needed. So they hurried out, despite a brutal thunderstorm.
Back at the hospital, an oblivious Cristina walked into Henry’s surgery rather nonchalantly, completely unaware that her mentor’s husband was on the table. Suddenly his pressure dropped and Webber had to take over and open up his chest because one of his tumors was going through his artery.
And in a tragic turn of events, Webber was unable to save Henry and he was pronounced dead. (break out tissues right about now)
As luck would have it the ambulance Karev and Meredith were driving in suddenly came to a screeching halt…in the middle of nowhere. And while waiting for help to come, something crashed into the ambulance, sending them both flying and endangering the already dying newborn.
Back at the hospital, Hunt couldn’t find the courage to tell Teddy about Henry as she cheerfully chatted away in surgery. And even though he knew it would compromise their friendship, Hunt took advice from Webber and chose too break the devastating news
At the end of the episode, Teddy still didn’t know Henry died. Meredith and Karev walked out of the ambulance with the baby only to find three dead bodies and an upside down car outside….whoa.
This only means one thing: next week’s episode will be even more tragic and tear jerking. And you thought that wasn’t possible after this week.
