Jason Wu's Collaboration With Target Announced

Discount fashion lovers prepared to be amazed. It was announced Monday morning that high-end clothing designer Jason Wu will be releasing a limited-edition at Target.
Rumors of the collaboration were featured on Twitter Sunday night and confirmed less than 24 hours later by a YouTube video released by the discount fashion store itself. The line is scheduled to be released February 5, 2012 and will feature women’s clothing and handbags.
The designer is a favorite of First Lady Michelle Obama, Ivana Trump, and January Jones. Wu became especially popular when Mrs. Obama wore one of his designs at her husband’s Inaugural Ball in 2009. The featured dress was a one-shouldered white chiffon gown embellished with Swarovski crystals and organza flowers. Mrs. Obama donated the famous dress to the Smithsonian in 2010.
In the 37-second video, Wu describes his design process and inspiration. It also features sketches from the designer and his intentions for the collection. Wu said he will create designs “just in time for spring…all for a great price." The looks are 60’s inspired and will all be sold for under $60, a big departure from the designer’s usual extravagant prices. They will be available both online and in stores.
Robert Givhan, a fashion critic from the Post describes Wu’s design style as “grown-up clothes with a youthful flourish.” His looks have been debuted at fashion week and across the red carpet, so there are high expectations for the limited-edition line.
When Target collaborated with famous designer Missoni, their website crashed shortly after the line was released because of heavy demand. Who knows what will happen when Wu’s new line is introduced.
