Japan's pummeling by natural occurences this year continued Tuesday as Typhoon Roke barreled toward the island nation.

More than 1.3 million people out of Japan's population of 127 million were asked to evacuate their homes, according to Japanese news reports. Two people died and three were missing after rain started arriving on Tuesday. About 80,000 people were ordered out. Heavy rain is expected to cause rivers to flood while gusts of nearly 90 mph also could be troublesome. Already, nearly two feet of rain has fallen in some areas.

No issues have been reported yet at the Fukushima nuclear power plant ravaged by the earthquake in Japan earlier this year.

A tropical storm last month left about 100 people dead.
