Nick Lachey And Vanessa Minnillo: TV Wedding Good Idea?

However, celebrity couples who have decided to film their wedding for cameras and networks haven’t always had great success. Sure the paycheck, discounted wedding fees and exposure is nice in the beginning. Once the wedding is over, however, the spotlight and chance for trouble doesn’t necessarily fade away.
As Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo’s wedding airs this Saturday on TLC, the question is asked, is it really the smartest thing to get married on TV?
Some couples have done it with no problems. Look at Trista and Ryan Sutter from “The Bachelorette.” ABC paid them $1 million to broadcast their wedding in 2003 on ABC. They remain married today with two kids. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom planned their wedding in nine days and E! saw record ratings for the two hour wedding special. In fact, the couple now allow cameras into their married lives with the series, “Khloe and Lamar.”
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, La La Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony and “Real Housewives” stars Lauri and George Peterson have all said “I do” in front of cameras and remain happily married as well.
Some couples though haven’t been as fortunate. Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro’s MTV series, “Til Death Do Us Part,” didn’t help their marriage that ended after two and a half years. Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight separated after their VH1 series, “My Fair Brady,” aired.
Nonetheless, the celebrity TV wedding business continues to grow. TLC aired Niecy Nash's wedding to Jay Tucker this past June. Shannen Doherty has announced a new reality show about her upcoming wedding set to premiere in January of 2012. Finally, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries will have E! cameras at their upcoming wedding in August.
Maybe getting married isn’t so bad. You can’t blame an entire divorce or successful marriage on one episode or a short TV series. But out of all the celebrities who could get married on TV, one might think Nick Lachey would be the most hesitant. His MTV series, “Newlyweds” with ex-wife Jessica Simpson was one of the many reasons behind the divorce according to some fans and bloggers. Simpson has since denied that was the reason behind the split. For someone who appeared so private, some may not expect Lachey to have a wedding on TV with his second wife.
With or without cameras, it is hard enough for celebrities to stay happily married. With TV weddings, the stars get more press, the fans get closer to the couples and networks are happy with big ratings. Maybe everyone can live happily ever after.
