UPDATED: 11:40 a.m. PST: The Assembly opened debate on the legislation, with Democrat Rep. Peter Barca moving to oust Senate Majority Leader Peter Fitzgerald for breaching procedural rules last night.  Fitzgerald read an alleged death threat on the floor.  A vote is expected by 3 p.m. CST.

UPDATED: 8:11 a.m. PST:  Protesters were being forcibly removed from the antechamber without violence.  Assembly session expected to take place as scheduled.

Dozens of protesters who charged or snuck into the Captiol last night following the State Senate's abrupt passage of Gov. Scott Walker's union-limiting legislation were attempting to block the Assembly from following suit Thursday morning.

Police locked down the building, tightly controlling access from the outside, but hundreds were already in. Press access to the Assembly chamber was limited while Rev. Jesse Jackson and Madison community leaders tried to enter.

The Assembly was scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. CST, but the session was under threat of delay as police conducted a security sweep and tried to gain order.  The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported:

"So far demonstrators in front of the Assembly say they don't want to leave. Several dozen protesters have gathered in the antechamber and have filled the narrow hallway leading to the office of Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald (R-Horicon).

Those protesters told a Journal Sentinel reporter they had no plans to leave, which sets up the possibility of arrests and a delay of Assembly action. They said they could be checked with wands without having to leave the antechamber."

Mother Jones reported that the bill hurried through the Senate last night without the Wisconsin 14 Democrats present also contained a provision that would allow the state to fire workers who walk out or strike:

"There's another explosive provision in the bill that's received little attention: The bill authorizes state officials to fire any state employee who joins a strike, walk-out, sit-in, or coordinated effort to call in sick."

There were also charges that GOP senators had broken the state's open meetings laws.

Photos of riot gear being unloaded outside the Capitol made the rounds on Twitter while actual events inside the Assembly were unclear.  Gov. Walker was expected to address the media at 10:30 a.m. CST.
