L.A. Today: Election Results, Dead Fish, And More

In Los Angeles, all incumbents were re-elected to their seats on the city council. Councilman Bernard Parks faced the toughest fight against Forescee Hogan-Rowles, who was heavily backed by organized labor. Neon Tommy spent the night at the victory parties for Parks as well as Councilman Jose Huizar.
Tax on Medical Marijuana? Yes. On Oil? No. Moving more money to the library system? Yes.
LAist has the complete results, and reports under 12 percent of L.A.’s registered voters cast a vote.
Moving on from the election. If you haven’t yet gotten a whiff, millions of dead sardines blanketed the Redondo Beach’s King Harbor yesterday. The fish apparently ran out of oxygen after swimming into the harbor to retreat a fierce storm. The Daily Breeze and L.A. Times both recap the bizarre event. The Times reports today that vacuums may be brought in to assist in the clean up.
The council finally acted on redevelopment funds Tuesday. The L.A. Times reports that the council voted to take in up to $1 billion from its redevelopment agency. The vote was an effort to protect the money from Gov. Jerry Brown's bid to kill the agencies.
