City Council Candidates Vie For Position In South L.A.
Voters in South L.A. will, on March 8, choose who will represent them in City Council for the next term. Incumbents Bernard Parks of District 8 and Herb J. Wesson Jr. of District 10 both face opposition in their respective contests, especially Parks, whose challenger, Forscee Hogan-Rowles, is backed by unions and Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. Annenberg Radio News and The South L.A. Report teamed up to compile interviews with some of the lesser-known candidates fighting to represent their districts.

- Althea Rae Shaw, who wants to represent District 10, joined politics after her nephew was murdered by a gang member.
- Also from District 10, Luis Montoya, one of the youngest candidates in this election, says he will listen to the community and cut city officials' salaries.
- Chris Brown says he has a way to bring revenue into the 10th District to support education and create more jobs.
- District 8 write-in candidate Armenak Nouridjanian describes himself as an American patriot who upholds human and civil rights in his broadcasting.
- Candidate Jabari S. Jumaane says he has watched the 8th District grow in some areas and stagnate in others.
