Ben Ali Supporters Keep Key Posts In Tunisian Unity Government

The top ministers of the defense, foreign affairs, interior, and finance departments from the old Ben Ali guard will remain in place, according to Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi.
Protesters were angry that so many members of the old regime were appointed to the unity government. Many were out in the streets of the capital, Tunis, Monday to express their frustration.
Tunisia underwent a rapid regime change after the self-immolation death of a young, educated man whose lack of economic prospects sparked a wave of protests about the dire economic and political conditions in the country. The protests resulted in the flight of President Ben Ali, who had been in power for 23 years, and the dissolution of his government on Jan. 14.
