Pearls, polo shirts, and the Hamptons all have something in common—they were made for true preps. Preppies from around the U.S. celebrated author Lisa Birnbach Thursday for the release of her second book, “True Prep: It’s a Whole New Old World.” Co author Chip Kidd did not make an appearance at the event.

The classy gala was held at Brooks Brothers on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, where guests came decked in their preppiest ensembles. The private affair included champagne, mingling, and the opportunity to meet the guest of honor, Lisa Birnbach.

Her new book serves as an “up-to-date” handbook for what labels to wear, what colleges to attend, and proper etiquette for the 21st century prep.

The book is a cheeky, humorous guide that includes over 200 original photographs of proper jewelry, fashion, people, and places.

Thirty years ago, Birnbach released “The Official Preppy Handbook” that sold 1.3 million copies and was number one on the New York Times bestseller list for 38 weeks.

Her first book described topics such as the preppy culture in North America, the world of WASP society, prep schools, and socially acceptable universities. Her book has influenced clothing companies like J. Crew and L.L. Bean.

“There are so many new labels out there we didn’t have thirty years ago,” said Birnbach while signing copies of her book, “I still can’t believe that I started this book eight weeks ago!”

Birnbach, was the epitome of a “true prep” at the event. She stayed true to preppy form with a black pencil skirt, black tank top, and light make-up. The atmosphere of the party was not only elegant, but had old-world New England appeal. Birnbach's bubbly personality and charm set the tone of the affair, where preppy was definitely in the air.
