The Weekender - Top 5 Things To Do The Last Weekend In August

Just in time for the completion of the strip's new facelift comes the Sunset Strip Music Festival. Spanning over seven venues Friday night, the festival ends in a giant street fair on Saturday. Smashing Pumpkins headline, but are joined by Fergie, Common, Semi Precious Weapons and more. In case the price tag gives you sticker shock, think about it this way: with over 50 bands performing, that comes down to less than a dollar per band.

Friday, Aug. 27 - Saturday, Aug. 28
2. Lit Crawl L.A.
Watch literary masters duke it out as they battle each other in an epic read-off at the Echo this weekend. The editors of Slake and the "lit queen" of the L.A. Times will judge. After the battle, join the winners for a victory lap around local bars.

3. Devil's Night Drive In
If you wanted the nostalgia of a drive in movie, you had to trek it out to Pacific Vineland in West Covina. Now, you can zip to downtown and park your ride atop a parking structure to watch "Rushmore" on a 24-foot screen Saturday night. Flash your lights and roller-skating servers will refill your food or drink. Lot opens at 6:30, movie at 8 p.m.
$10
Saturday, Aug. 28, 8 p.m.
4. The Antlers @ The Getty
Listen to great music in the summer twilight with friends at this nice outdoor venue. The Getty Museum continues its summer concert series, Saturdays Off the 405, this weekend with Brooklyn band The Antlers. The event is free, but parking costs $15 and the line is a headache, so it's a better bet to park in the neighborhood below and leave yourself time to walk up to the museum.

5. Luna Park
This delicious restaurant on La Brea features French, Italian and American food in a trendy atmosphere that turns into hip bar at night. The best part about it? The blue plate special.
