Labor Day tastes a little bitter this year as the unemployment rate has become permanently stuck above eight percent. Against this backdrop, both presidential campaigns are struggling to answer tough questions. Are we better off than we were four years ago? The Obama camp has no tidy answer. While the middle class fought to make ends meet, did Romney's Bain Capital use illegal practices to avoid paying millions in taxes? New York's attorney general intends to find out.
