She has the biggest followings for any solo female DJ, gathers support from Tiesto, Avicii, and Hardwell, and has played at some of the best music festivals in the world. Can you guess who it is?

Hailing from Australia, Helena has touched down in LA and in no time flat is going to bring the City of Angeles to the ground.

Deemed as being “one of the most exciting DJs in the world right now,” by DMC World, I sat down with the up-and-coming artist before she performed at Avalon’s new weekly party, Big Top Wednesdays

Australian-born, but raised in England, Helena started out at the age of 14 and received guidance from fellow DJ, Eats Everything. He started teaching her in a garage and her interest and encouragement only grew, being surrounded by her friends and family that also tried their hand at DJing. But just because she started out DJing does not mean that her path has been a straight shot to performing. Helena has held jobs in Ibiza to Australia and has managed and promoted clubs and helped work some of the largest music festivals in Europe.

When asked why she left Australia where she has such a strong following and has played at major festivals, Helena had a very simple answer that anyone can relate to: there was really no more challenge. “I didn’t want to be local and I feel like my career outgrew Australia,” she said.

Continuing, Helena stated that she, “wanted to take on Europe, Asia, and America.” Already having played Ultra Music Festival 2013 in Miami and Tomorrowland this year, this goal does not sound unattainable and you shouldn’t be surprised if you see her name on the lineups for Electric Daisy Carnival and Electric Zoo in the very near future.

But enough about who she is, the main point to focus on is her musicality. Throwing down a heavy hitting, electro house set that night, it’s no wonder that she has already started playing festivals. This DJ can definitely hold her own. The room was charged with an energy that made people feel electric and there was nothing but moving bodies. She really brought the fire that night and hopefully I will be able to make it out to another show while she is fulfilling her residency at Drai’s Rooftop Beach Club.

Make sure to check out her new release “Raven” below and to keep an eye out for when she’s coming to a town near you.
