Senator Dianne Feinstein, head of the Senate Intelligence Committe, claimed on Tuesday that the CIA has been spying on the Congressional network of computers, secretly searching Intelligence Committee computers, which she says is in violation of both federal law and the Constitution. Senator Feinstein also said that an internal investigation within the Senate has been referred to the Department of Justice.

The CIA has defended itself, claiming that the CIA acted in response to learning that Senate Committee members had gained access to documents they were not supposed to have, including an executive level report on the CIA’s interrogation and dentition practices under the George W. Bush administration. The CIA has called the alleged spying an “audit” of Senate practices, and has not responded to Senator Feinstein.
