Katniss Everdeen, played by the flawless Jennifer Lawrence, is arguably one of the most recognizable and unique movie heroes of the past few years. MTV, however, does not seem to agree.

The next show to hit awards season, the MTV Movie Awards (airing Apr. 13) announced the list of nominees a few days ago, however fans have been quick to pick up on a major snub. Jennifer's character of Katniss in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" was not nominated in the "Best Hero" category.

Instead, nominees included John Cale (Channing Tatum) from "White House Down," Thor (Chris Hemsworth) from "Thor: The Dark World," Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) from "Man of Steel," Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) from "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) from "Iron Man 3." The actors who played Bilbo and Iron Man were both nominated last year as well (Bilbo won).

Notice something peculiar? No female heroes were nominated. Last year Anne Hathaway and Kristen Stewart were nominated for their roles as Catwoman and Snow White. "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" was a record-breaking blockbuster, and yet JLaw was not acknowledged, despite showing heroic qualities and great athleticism. She is nominated for Best Female Performance for her role in the film however, yet fans remain furious.

So began an online fan petition, asking for her character to be added to the "Best Hero" nominee list by the time of the show. It has already received over 10,000 signatures, and the petitioners hope to reach 11,000 by Mar. 14 (in 4 days).

On the petition site, author Sophie Azran wrote, "We're constantly shown by the entertainment industry that men are brave, powerful, or successful, while women are often given supporting roles and weak characters...It's appalling to me that the event's producers are ignoring this female hero, especially since this film beat out all the others at the box office."

Since this is an award show voted by the public, it would make sense if the voting committee decided to add Lawrence's character to the list given the high demand. At the same time, shows like these don't budge with just a single petition.

Are you frustrated by Lawrence's lack of acknowledgement for the "Best Hero" category?

Tune in to the MTV Movie Awards hosted by Conan O'Brien on Sunday Apr. 13 at 9 p.m. EST.
