Pharrell – “Happy” from “Despicable Me 2”

For the first performance of the evening, Pharell donned his infamous hat from this year’s Grammys as he performed “Happy” from the animated feature film “Despicable Me 2.” There was no better way to start off the performances than with an upbeat song filled with lots of dancing. Pharell even went to the first row of the audience where actress Lupita Nyong’o stood up to dance along and feel the groove.

Karen O and Ezra Koenig – “The Moon Song” from “Her”

Announced by Zac Efron, Karen O and Ezra Koenig brought “The Moon Song” from Academy Award nomination “Her” to the stage. The artist wore a vibrant red gown, creating a pop of color to the dark blue background and the glow of the moon behind her. The song was slow, serene, and beautiful. It provided a stark contrast to Pharell’s lively performance of “Happy,” changing the mood of the Oscars.

U2 – “Ordinary Love” from “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”

U2’s performance was sweet and simple, in an acoustic fashion. A little different from what was expected, the performance was on the quieter side all the while keeping the beat fast-paced. Bono kept his signature look with his sunglasses on throughout the entire duration of the performance. The performance was great, but it was nothing in comparison to the complete production of “Happy.”

Pink– "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from “The Wizard of Oz”

We were brought back into our childhood to celebrate the 75th anniversary of “The Wizard of Oz” in a tribute beginning off with Pink. Pink walked onto the stage in a dazzling red gown singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as scenes from the classic musical played onscreen behind her.

Bette Midler – “Wind Beneath My Wings” for "In Memoriam"

After a beautiful montage of all the dear people the film industry lost this year, Bette Midler only made us more emotional with her beautiful performance. The talented singer made the audience emotional with her performance of “Wind Beneath My Wings.” Her performance was passionate, and truly brought the sense that these people greatly influenced the film industry.

Idina Menzel – “Let It Go” from “Frozen”

With the popularity of the hit song from Disney’s latest Academy Award-winning animated feature film, it was a given that Idina Menzel would perform it at the Oscars. She stood alone on the glittering stage in a beautiful crème gown. She certainly did not disappoint. Of course, there is nothing the star isn’t used to. The Broadway actress blew the audience away as she sang her song with great passion. Though she seemed to get a little nervous at the end, she still wowed the crowd. Could you really expect anything less from the actress?
