Oscars 2014: Lupita Nyong'o Wins Best Supporting Actress

Lupita Nyong'o won the 2014 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She won for her role as Patsey in "12 Years a Slave." This is her first Oscar nomination and win.

During her acceptance speech, Lupita was overcome with joy and teared up. Among many, Lupita thanked her family as well as the Yale School of Drama. She ended by saying, "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."

Other nominees in this category included Sally Hawkins in "Blue Jasmine," Jennifer Lawrence in "American Hustle," Julia Roberts in "August: Osage County" and June Squibb in "Nebraska."
