Paris Fashion Week 2015: Balmain
Earlier today, across the Atlantic, an army of warriors ready for battle marched across the stage at Balmain’s show for the Fall 2015 Paris Fashion Week. Each model featured a slicked back ponytail and walked with purpose. The garments they wore sang out tunes of strength and power while still featuring melodies of femininity. Balmain’s new collection, in short, is for the strong, modern, warrior princess inside every woman.

Balmain has been on everyone’s fashion radar recently, after the announcement of the Balmain x H&M collaboration featuring none other than the Instagram famous models Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner (both walked the Paris runway) in the brand's campaign. There have been a few sneak peeks of what the H&M collection will feature, and we can only hope that it depicts the same look of soft and strong that the fashion show did.
Balmain is known for their trademark embellishments and texture: meticulous beadwork, structured shoulder pads, bold prints, and elaborate details made up the masterpieces of Balmain’s past collections. This year was no exception. Thick belts, dresses, skirts, and sweaters featuring intricate woven and lattice patterns, fish-net inspired pieces, and feminine ruffles were just some of the details that graced the runway. The cinched waists featured on nearly every model showed off the feminine curves of the modern woman, it was as if each piece was designed for Kim Kardashian to wear straight off the runway.

As far as colors go, Balmain stayed in the neutral territory, featuring a variety of brown suede, creams, and black with a pop of turquoise, orange, and blue here and there. The colors may scream classic fall fashion, and indeed, some of the garments do have a classic components to them, but for the most part, Balmain featured modern garments that shatter the typical boundaries of fashion. With this fashion show, Balmain has showed us that women don’t need to wear pantsuit to be strong, that showing off your curves doesn’t have to come at a price, that you can wear a dress but still have power. Women can be powerful warriors without sacrificing high fashion.
