Now that Lucious (Terrence Howard) is out of prison, he's free to wreak havoc, and that’s exactly what he does.

As part of Lucious’s bail agreement, he is not allowed inside of Empire’s building. It seems as if the prosecutor Roxanne Ford (Tyra Ferrell) is out to get him, but it also seems like she has a thing for him.

For his first day out of the big house, Lucious invites his family over for a big dinner. He tells them that he will forgive them for everything because they are a family. However, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) is not down to accept his offer and she makes a grand exit, pulling off the table cloth with all of the food on her way out.

She is more concerned with getting her company off the ground and dealing with Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray). Hakeem is hooking up with the lead singer of his all girl group Mirage A Trois and Cookie has no faith in him to get everything in order.

Lucious tries to work with Anika (Grace Gealey) to tear down Cookie’s company but he has no idea that she no longer works for them. She plays along because deep down she just wants to hurt him.

Andre (Trai Byers) is still a mess and trying to get back into Empire and tells his dad to buy a radio station so that he can control what airs, further preventing Cookie’s company from growing.

Lucious decides to throw a party to announce his return to the free world. Jamal (Jussie Smollett) performs with Pitbull and everyone is having a good time; that is, until Cookie and her crew crash the party with a performance from Hakeem who performs an entire track aimed at Lucious, Jamal and all of Empire.

After the surprise performance, Cookie’s company is the hottest show in town. She does still have time however to help out her eldest son. She tells Andre to tell Lucious about his baby news, because Lucious has a soft spot for grandchildren. Andre takes his mom’s advice, and Lucious is happy for him but also hurt that Andre would use that as a way to get back into the company and he kicks him out of his house. As he kicks out his son, we go to another flashback showing Lucious dealing with his mom, who appears as if she has trouble with shoplifting.

Lucious is still determined to sign an artist from the streets. He goes to find her rapping on the streets in a rap battle. Lucious intervenes just as she pulls out her gun and tries to shoot her opponent in the battle. He tries to tell her that he can get her off the streets and save her, but she does not trust him and she runs off with her thug friends.

Jamal is back in the studio struggling to find the right producer, but he realizes that the only person that can handle him and works well with is his mother. He decides that he cannot let his parents’ war stand in the way of his success. He goes to see Cookie in her studio but Lucious pulls up just as he opens the door. Lucious convinces Jamal to avoid going down the route that involves Cookie as he has bigger plans.

Cookie and Hakeem are preparing to debut their female group on the radio, but the lead singer Valentina (Becky G) has yet to show up. Lucious makes a grand entrance to the studio to announce that he bought the radio station and he also signed Valentina to Empire. Now that he's out of prison, he's free to ruin Cookie’s company, but she won't go down without a fight.
