Pop rockers 5 Seconds of Summer held an album release event at Hollywood and Highland Center celebrating the release of their new album, "Sounds Good Feels Good."

Hundreds of fans arrived and lined the balconies early to see the band perform live. At 5:30 p.m., the four-piece band took the stage to play five songs, three from the new album, and two from their first album.

They began with new song and current single “Hey Everybody!” This was the second live performance of the song, the first being their performance on UK’s "Alan Carr: Chatty Man" Stand Up to Cancer special two weeks earlier.

“She’s Kinda Hot,” the album’s first single, followed and triggered an immense reaction from the crowd. They got everyone moving – parents nodded their heads and tapped their feet to the beat as the fans sang the lyrics and clapped to the beat.

After the performance of their first official single, the band talked for a little, introducing themselves and "Sounds Good Feels Good."

“Who here likes the album?” They asked as a follow-up question to who has listened to the album. Screams erupted throughout the crowd as the answer to both questions.

“Jet Black Heart,“ one of the five songs pre-released in the weeks leading up to the entire LP, then started blasting throughout the mall. This song was the only one that they played that was released without a music video to accompany it.

Siri Balusu, a freshman majoring in Business Administration at USC, attended the free concert with her floormate Selamay Seife, a fellow freshman and International Relations major. “Jet Black Heart” was her favorite song.

“Despite it being my first time listening to the song, I really enjoyed their performance of it,” she said. “Even through the loud, cheering fan girls, I could relate to the lyrics so well and the music went along with the music perfectly.”

They then finished their gig with favorites off their debut album, “Amnesia” and “She Looks So Perfect.”

5 Seconds of Summer introduced their last song of the set, “She Looks So Perfect,” as the song that let them “make a second album.” The song was certified 2x Platinum in the United States and 3x Platinum in Australia.

Fans jumped, screamed and sang throughout the entirety of their 30-minute performance.

Seife, a fan of the band since “around when One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson tweeted about them,” attended the free concert appreciated both the new and old songs played.

“I really enjoyed ‘Hey Everybody!’ because it was a nice opening song that got everyone pumped,” she said. “But my favorite song of the performance was ‘She Looks So Perfect’ because it was a song everyone know and was able to sing along.”

Balusu, though it was her first time seeing 5 Seconds of Summer and she has “never been a big fan before,” also enjoyed the concert.

“Although the set was brief, their energy was extremely palpable, especially through the audience,” she said. “It was a performance that made me want to listen to them on repeat.”

Hot Topic promoted the event with the hashtag #5SOSCrashHollywood, offering wristbands to their guest list members who pre-purchased 5 Seconds of Summer’s new album. The wristbands granted fans access to the performance as well as an in-store signing which happened after the concert promptly at 6 p.m.
