Presenting… Chanel #6! (FOX)
Presenting… Chanel #6! (FOX)

Another week, another rip-roaring episode of Scream Queens. Coming off of a jam-packed 2-hour premiere last Tuesday, this week’s episode looked to continue to build up the suspense - and oh, did it!

The episode starts with Zayday (Keke Palmer) and Grace (Skyler Samuels) heading into a convenience store to get some snacks. While Grace is recounting to Zayday how she feels bad about accusing Pete (Diego Boneta) of being the serial killer, they are approached by none other than the Red Devil. Both go into panic-mode, with Grace pulling out a Taser gun and tasing the Red Devil in the genitals, and Zayday knocking over a shelf on him. They pull off his mask and discover that he isn’t the killer, but instead the actual school mascot.

All is not going well for Chanel (Emma Roberts), who is angered to discover that Chanel #2’s (Ariana Grande) body has disappeared from the meat locker. Chanel #5 (Abigail Breslin), who is with Chanel, confesses that she is “over” this serial killer thing and is more interested in having threesomes with gross fraternity boys. Chanel is astounded by #5’s disobedient behavior and swears to get back at her.

Since it is fairly obvious that Chanel #2 has disappeared, Grace and Zayday decide to break into her room. They find a bloodstain on the floor and are interrupted by Denise (Niecy Nash), who shows them the tweet that #2 posted before dying. It turns out that not only are the Chanel’s telling everyone that #2 had a nervous breakdown and went back to Bel-Air, but that someone has been posting pictures of #2 through her Instagram. All three decide this sounds phony and go to see her parents, where they discover many different things: one, that her parents don’t know she is missing and in all honesty don’t want her to come home, second, her real name is Sonya, third, she had a drinking problem and was in and out of rehab, and probably the most shocking, that she dated Chad Radwell (Glen Powell) the previous year.

Back at Wallace, a Take Back the Night rally is happening. Before the rally, Chanel approaches Chad and Earl Grey (Lucien Laviscount), begging Chad to take her back. However, Chad refuses to sleep with less girls and sees Chanel’s request of that to be too controlling. While she thinks that he loves her, he denies it and says that the only way they can get back together is if all the “dog-faced” Kappa pledges get murdered and Chanel becomes popular again. Meanwhile, Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) gives a speech in which she begs for the students to stay calm and sane despite the murders. In an attempt to dispel rumors about Red Devil, she declares that a new mascot will represent Wallace – “Coney,” an ice cream cone that was stolen from a stand. In short, the cone doesn’t impress Wallace students or make them feel any safer.

Wes Gardner (Oliver Hudson) is the new professor for “Intro to Film Analysis.” Grace is pissed because she feels that her dad is being too overprotective and purposefully looked up her class schedule so he could be the professor of that specific class. She storms off, but Wes continues to teach the class, showing “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and citing it as one of his favorite films. Gigi (Nasim Pedrad) comes into class and watches the lecture, and after it is done, suggeests Wes join the Neighborhood Watch that she is setting up. Munsch interrupts the conversation and invites Gigi to play tennis with her, where she tells her not only are they going to move into the KKT house for a week to keep an eye on the girls, but she also warns her to “stay away” from her man. Gigi is undeterred by the threat.

We are then cut to a dialogue by new mascot ‘Coney,’ as he walks around the school and lavishes at the positive response he gets from students. When he gets back to his dorm, the Red Devil, who has a chainsaw and swings it at Coney, attacks him. There is a struggle but the Red Devil overpowers him, eventually sawing Coney in half.

Hester (Lea Michele) sneaks into Chanel’s closet and lavishes at the wonderful and luxurious collection she has, but Chanel catches her. Instead of kicking Hester out, Chanel brags about how Karl Lagerfeld is a close family friend of hers and always supplies her with new clothes. Seeing how star-struck Hester is at this information, Chanel realizes that she could transform Hester and gives her a makeover. She isn’t really doing it to help Hester of course, but more so that Chad can see her as a good person. Hester is then transformed into Chanel #6 and is introduced to the pledges, right after Chanel #3 (Billie Lourd) and #5 confess to Grace and Zayday that they both went out with Chad the previous year (Chanel doesn’t know about that). While the other girls are shocked at Hester/Chanel #6’s beautiful transformation, #5 flips out, calling Chanel a b*tch and saying that she not only has no respect for the rules of Kappa or anyone in the house, but that she doesn’t deserve to be KKT president. This is definitely a change from the #5 we saw in the previous episode, who seemed to kiss Chanel’s feet as she walked. The confrontation is interrupted by the arrival of Munsch and Gigi, who announce that they are temporarily moving in.

Meanwhile, other alliances are being formed – first, Chanel #3 and Mac (Jeanna Han) have a talk. #3 reveals that she has discovered that her real father is Charles Manson, and is afraid that if this information comes out, people will think that she is the serial killer. She believes that she and Mac are soul mates and that they should provide one another alibis when the next murder strikes. Mac agrees to this. Pete and Grace also reunite and are able to move on from their previous argument. Grace voices how she believes that Chad Radwell is the Red Devil, while Pete lets her know that he could only find information about one of the girls on the 1995 incident list he found in Munsch’s files. Her last name is Greenwell, and she was two credits away from (barely) graduating when she left Wallace. Since she only lives six hours from Wallace, Grace and Pete decide to pay her a visit.

At the Dickie Dollar Scholars fraternity, Chad holds a meeting. It turns out the coroner ruled Boone’s (Nick Jonas) death as a suicide, which Chad thinks is phony. When he took a closer look at the crime scene, he saw bloody footsteps leading from the murder table to the bathroom. Essentially, he thinks the Take Back The Night Rally was a joke and wants to lead a witch-hunt to bring the Red Devil out of hiding. The other DDS boys heartily agree to join. Later that night, all dressed in white, carrying baseball bats, and striding along to “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” by the Backstreet Boys, the fraternity men call out to the Red Devil. After shouting and attacking a car, they find not exactly what they’re looking for – not just one, but two Red Devils, who both have chainsaws! The boys put up a fight, but they are easily overpowered after their baseball bats are destroyed. Chad is knocked unconscious and a DDS boy goes to save him, only to have both of his arms sliced off by one of the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, suspicion is rising in KKT. Denise thinks that Zayday is the killer and has a bunch of bogus “evidence,” but we do find out that in addition to Tasers, Zayday’s grandmother sent her a chainsaw that she keeps under her bed. Suspicious, much? Wes, Gigi, and Munsch have a salad dinner back at the house, which Wes leaves early because he realizes that Grace isn’t there. Word to Ryan Murphy, this whole creepy dad thing is getting old. Wes calls Grace and she lies to him, saying that she is at the library, but in reality she and Pete are at a gas station, pumping up the car to make the long road trip to meet the Greenwell woman.

Gigi and Munsch are sharing a room, but Gigi is forced to sleep on the couch because Munsch insists on putting on a sound system, which emits whale distress noises and gorilla attacking sounds. Gigi has barely settled in on the couch when the Red Devil appears, carrying a chainsaw and desperately trying to cut Gigi to pieces! Gigi puts up a good fight until Wes busts in, the Red Devil is able to slice his arm before Gigi kicks him away. The girls run downstairs to see the commotion and Gigi sends them away, but this allows the Red Devil time to escape. Munsch runs downstairs to find out what’s going on, but Wes approaches her with the chainsaw, saying she isn’t going anywhere until the police come because he and Gigi are convinced she is the killer.

Wow! While this episode was definitely crazy, it felt bogged down by everyone questioning who the killer could possibly be. The answer definitely isn’t going to be easy, especially with the discovery that there is more than one murderous Red Devil. While this expands the playing field of whom the killer can be, it does take a little fun out of the guessing game. In addition, the high amount of plot points had my head spinning and it was hard to keep up. Aside from the DDS witch-hunt, which is quite possibly one of the funniest things I've ever seen, there weren't as many standout moments in this episode as there were in the premiere episodes. However, the next episode looks to redeem itself with more information about the 1995 incident, which is definitely the core mystery of this season.
