Among the highly acclaimed comedians considered to replace Jon Stewart (some of which include Tina Fey, Louis C.K., Amy Schumer and "The Daily Show"'s own Samantha Bee), the least anticipated to make the cut was South African comedian, Trevor Noah, announced on Feb. 10.

As one of the newest additions to the show's correspondent team, Noah's bitingly satirical segments, one of which juxtaposes American society with stereotypical views of African society in order to criticize American generalized ignorance, suggest that Noah acquires the intelligence and witty sarcasm that is fundamentally necessary for a comedy news network that is both informative and entertaining.

Noah's freshman status on the show should not deter viewers, however, the 31-year-old comedian has quite the background in hosting. In fact, the multilingual actor, presenter, comedian, and radio DJ has been hosting since after his first cameo role on the South African show "Isidingo."

After two years of hosting an educational program for South African network, SABC2, Noah became the host of his own radio show on Yfm, "Noah's Ark." Over the years, he has accumulated more presitigious credits such as hosting the 3rd Annual South Africa Film and Television Awards and the South African Music Awards in 2009. In 2010, Noah landed his own late night show in South Africa, "Tonight with Trevor Noah," which was inspired by American late night hosts such as Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, and coincidentally Jon Stewart.

Noah's particular knack for comedy further proves himself as a worthy addition to Comedy Central. After having performed all throughout South Africa, Noah began opening for illustrious comedians such as Gabriel Iglesias and Russell Peters. Some of Noah's own stand up specials include "The Daywalker(2009), "That's Racist" (2012) and "It's My Culture(2013). Noah's most recent comedy special, "African American," is available on Netflix, Hulu, and iTunes.

Before signing on as a "Daily Show" correspondent in 2014, Noah had already earned minor American late night show credits. In January 2012 and May 2013, Noah became the first South African stand up comedian to appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "The Late Show with David Letterman."

One of the main criticisms of Comedy Central's decision is that late night hosts typically hold a previously renowned career in American comedy, whereas Noah's South African origin and novelty to American society is disconcerting. However, other international comedians, such as former "Daily Show" correspondent, John Oliver, and "The Late Late Show" host James Corden, have proven to be apt and charismatic hosts.

As for Noah's relatively amateur status, Jon Stewart himself received ample criticisms when he succeeded Craig Kilborn as the new "Daily Show" host in 1999. Stewart's own previous experience was limited to a handful of movies and his own talk show, "The Jon Stewart Show" (1993), which ran for only two seasons on MTV.

Yet another hit to Trevor Noah's rep was the backlash it faced when a few of his old tweets resurfaced earlier this week and were challenged for their anti-Semitic and misogynistic tendencies. However, Comedy Central has backed Noah with confidence: "Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included...To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central."

Though it is important to acknowledge and address Noah's controversial Twitter history, the public shouldn't be so quick to dismiss him as of yet. His history as a young, mixed race man raised in apartheid South Africa allows him a unique platform and perspective from which to approach social and political issues in the public American discourse.

It is evident that mainstream media does not adapt well to change, especially change to traditions that have been in place for as long as Stewart's sixteen year run on the show. However, Trevor Noah has proven himself to be talented, experienced, and well equipped for the position. Though he has only showcased himself with three correspondent segments on The Daily Show, he has held strong performances in each and delivered well. After all, if Jon Stewart himself is confident in the network's decision, it is only fair that the public retains some faith, too.
