If you are currently suffering from post-Super Bowl depression, like so many others, breathe a sigh of relief. March Madness is almost upon us.

The college basketball regular season has yet again entertained us with upsets galore and a Kentucky team that simply refuses to go down. Although I am staunchly against the notion that the regular season “doesn’t really matter”, I think that all sports fans are in need of some playoff madness, especially considering February is one of the dullest sports months of the year.

For the next two weeks until Selection Sunday, we’ll be looking at the biggest conferences in the NCAA and the teams that have their spot locked, and the ones that are still in the hunt of the Big Dance.

American Athletic Conference: The AAC had their fun last year, as UConn shocked millions with their championship run. This year, well, UConn and the AAC are nothing to write home to mom about.

With the Louisville Cardinals leaving the AAC for the ACC this year, and UConn’s inability to remain national championship or even conference championship contenders, SMU has been considered the solid frontrunner for some time now and could very well be the lone bid for the conference. The only remaining teams that are just barely making the mix (which is a stretch itself) are Temple, Tulsa, and Cincinnati.

The Bearcats definitely do not look like contenders, but surprisingly enough, they have the best shot to make it into the 68. They put up a huge win over SMU to sweep the series and they’ve won three games against top 20 RPI teams. If they can win their last three conference games, then maybe, just maybe, they'll hear their name called as a high seed on Selection Sunday.

Atlantic 10: Similar to the AAC, the A10 has only a one locked team, but that isn’t to say they are a “bad” conference. In fact, the A10 is going to be one of the most exciting conferences to watch in the remaining weeks of the season.

Despite the loss of guard Brionte Weber and a recent stunning loss to Richmond, VCU looks like it’ll be able to secure a regular season conference championship and a spot in the dance. With UMass signing its season away with a loss to VCU and Rhode Island doing the same with a loss to Davidson, Dayton and Davidson are the last remaining teams in the conference trying to state their case for a bid.

Dayton was the closest team to being another lock, but their loss to Duquesne isn't really helping their cause. An away win against VCU this Saturday could place them in the lock category at a high seed.

Davidson is another team who refuses to fall off of the bubble watch. A five-game winning streak has kept them in the conversation and they too could benefit immensely with a win over VCU on March 5th.
