CBS Sports Show Host Learns To Not Mess With Band 'Dorks'

Jim Rome, host of CBS Sports Radio’s “The Jim Rome Show,” messed with the wrong dorks. According to a Washington Post blog, Rome tweeted on Thursday, “Is there anyone not in a marching band who thinks those dorks running around with their instruments are cool?” Band members of all ages defended the marching world by sharing their personal experiences and posting pictures of military marching bands and high school football players who were also part of marching band. The social media backlash spurred two trending hashtags, #MarchonRome and #Romeisburning.

Videos of marching band shows such as that of Ohio State University produce millions of views on Youtube, and an ESPN feature found that a member of a drum corps (a higher caliber of a marching band) works as hard as an Olympic athlete during rehearsal. Blue Devils, a famous American drum corps, posted on their Facebook page, "...“We would like to invite Mr. Rome to a live event at our expense” along with the following video of NFL hall of famer Steve Young.

Rome later deleted his tweet and tweeted on Friday, “Band nation - I hear you. I was out of line. I apologize. I do not condone bullying of any kind and that was not my intent.”
