Wickedly talented, Mandy Gonzalez in “Love All Ways” takes the Los Angeles musical theatre scene to new heights at the Catalina Bar & Grill. After returning from an esteemed Broadway career as Elphaba in "Wicked" and Nina in "In the Heights," Mandy Gonzalez begins her L.A. homecoming with an outstanding debut concert.

Rogelio Douglas Jr. (Mandy’s "In the Heights" co-star) kicks off the evening with upbeat tunes that show off his skills. Between his rich vocal tone and phenomenal tap moves, Rogelio’s performance on Joe Cocker’s “Feelin’ Alright” is a highlight of the show. And Rogelio only impresses further when combining forces with Mandy later in the show for their duet “When You Are Home” from "In the Heights." Mandy’s charisma complements her stunning vocals to create a revue worth seeing. 

After Mandy takes over, she spices up the stage with a blend of beloved melodies and favorites from her days on Broadway. Her personal anecdotes are witty and charming with a hint of sass. And, though she masters softer pieces like “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins, the songs that show off her belt seem to be written only for her. A frequently performed number, I was surprised to see “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler on the set list; however, she and Music Director Brian J. Nash blow it out of the water. Totally in tune with each other, their vocals blend together effortlessly for a truly notable performance. Finally, Mandy proves unmatched in her conquering of “Defying Gravity” from the hit musical "Wicked." Her voice is unbelievably powerful and dynamic. She soars across the highest of notes with unmistakable ease—revealing both her talent and maturity as a performer.     

In conclusion, “Love All Ways” proves a spectacular evening out. Directed by Eric Michael Gillett with Musical Direction by Brian J. Nash, the show’s transitions are seamless and the performance feels incredibly spontaneous. The sheer talent of all the people onstage—including the band—is remarkable and a joy to watch. Though this revue ends January 28th, I would highly recommend keeping your eye out for other performances by Mandy Gonzalez, Rogelio Douglas Jr., and Brian J. Nash—you won’t be disappointed!
