Winter Storm Kills Two People In Catalina Island

Two bodies at Catalina Island were recovered by coroner's officials Wednesday morning, according to the Los Angeles Times. One of them was a Harbor Patrol officer who died at Avalon Harbor during a windstorm topping at 40mph. The other body was found floating hear Avalon Harbor. These are the first casualties of a winter storm that is sweeping Southern California.

Motorists have been trapped on mountiain roads and big rigs have toppled over from powerful winds, Los Angeles Times reported. The cold storm from Canada brought several inches of snow across Southern California and winds up to 70 mph. 50 people spent early Wendesday morning in a Crestline church to wait out the storm and recover their cars, and up to 200 vehicles were stuck in Big Bear.
