Researchers Find The World's Oldest Piece Of Art

The oldest piece of art by at least 300,000 years was found at a site in Java, Indonesia.

The discovered work - a mollusk shell carefully engraved by a shark tooth - suggests that our Homo erectus were more sophisticated than was once thought. 

The findings surrounding this 540,000-year-old piece of art are published in the most recent issue of the journal Nature. Research plans are being made for a follow-up study on the implications of the discovery.
