A massive fire broke out in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning, L.A. Times reported. The fire was the size of a city block and was so hot that it melted nearby freeway signs. The fire broke out in the DaVinci apartment complex, which is still under construction, at 1:20 a.m. Parts of the scaffolding fell over a freeway wall. The 101 and 110 Freeways were closed. Firefighters used the 110 Freeway to fight the fire.

More than 250 firefighters battled another fire at an apartment tower under construction in the 900 block of Fremont Avenue, the Times reported. Firefighters said the flames climbed more than 40 feet above the seven-story building. Officials said two-thirds of the space were consumed by the fire. The 101 Freeway and the southbound 110 Freeway opened around 4:30 a.m., the northbound 110 freeway is still closed.
