When it comes to Team Jake or Team Fitz on Scandal, all we can do is scratch our heads with just as much frustration as Olivia Pope must have every time she looks at their ridiculously handsome selves. While Fitz has this older, hotter, intense sort of personality that seems to always manage to get Olivia down for anything whenever and wherever, Jake has a seductive, dangerous side to him that is basically impossible to avoid. Yet, each has his pros and cons. As we enter this week’s new episode of Scandal on Thursday, Nov. 13, we must decide who Olivia should choose now that Jake will most likely be released from prison and Fitz thinks he has a chance with Olivia again.

For Team Jake fans, our feelings are mixed. The pros of Jake are extensive. For one, he was in the military, and not just the regular military like Fitz, but insane B6-13 military, so if D.C. is ever forced into a zombie apocalypse, Olivia will be covered. Two, Jake looked ridiculously sexy in his uniform that one time he took Olivia to the presidential ball. Three, Jake seems younger and more available for Olivia, considering he is single and not forced to keep her a dirty secret for eight years while he’s running a country. In fact, he is so single, that he can just run away with her to a deserted island for months. Four, let’s just remember that crazy scene this season involving Jake and Olivia; it included Olivia, trench coat, commands, Jake, and the desk. That’s all I’ve got to say.

Yet, there are still cons for Jake. Beyond the fact that he has tortured and killed hundreds of people because of his job in B6-13, he killed James Novak, one of Olivia’s friends, one of the best characters of the show, and a brand new father, leaving Cyrus a single dad. While he did stay with James until the end, we still hated him for forcing James to bleed out on the street. Then there was that whole stalking Olivia for a while situation in past seasons, but that was sort of a misunderstanding that she forgave him for. However, those are all the serious cons of Jake. He has managed to stand by Olivia, love her with complete devotion despite the fact that she jumps between him and Fitz with regularity, playing with his emotions continuously.

Now, on to Team Fitz, where our feelings are slightly less muddled. For one, Fitz is also super hot and, might I just add, the leader of a country. If you’re into power, you can’t get higher publicly than that. Two, Fitz does this super serious, yet broken facial expression whenever he has intensely emotional discussions with Olivia that torments us inside because of its sincerity, gentleness, and vulnerability. All good qualities that should be recognized in a man’s facial expression when it comes to the woman he loves. Three, Fitz also looks hot in a tuxedo. Four, Fitz was in the military as well, yet not in as bad*ss of a military branch as Jake was. Yet, still the military, making him a decent apocalypse companion. Five, Fitz is as in love with politics as Olivia is, meaning they will always have wonderful pillow talk. Six, let’s remember that super hot call last week involving Fitz and Olivia: it included Olivia, Fitz, phone, and the oval office desk.

However, like Jake, Fitz has his negative aspects, as well. For one, he’s the president and always in the spotlight, so while both he and Olivia had once planned on coming out into the open as a couple and divorcing Mellie, that will never be an option now that their son is dead. Mellie is in way too much of an emotional crisis to handle complete abandonment, which is totally understandable. Two, once a cheater, always a cheater (in my opinion). Three, he picks horrible secret service men, considering his best man murdered his son in public and no one suspected him until his absence during a shift was finally noticed months after the fact. Fitz also seems pretty possessive of Olivia and overly dependent to a slight point of suffocation. Yet, Olivia can’t seem to keep away from him and vice versa; sometimes people are just into that sort of thing. So, no judgment.

As we enter this new episode with Olivia’s love choices hanging in the air, we will bite our nails in anxiety, desperate to know who she will pick. While I’m biased in who I think she should pick *cough, cough Team Jake* her relationship with Fitz has been going on way longer than she has ever even known Jake. With those two hunks as her options, it is no wonder that she has such difficulties choosing. Yet, now that Jake is about to be released and is again a decent competitor for Olivia’s heart, all you can do is take sides, sit back, and watch Olivia make one of the most important decisions of her television life.
