Violent crimes in the United States decreased by 4.4 percent in 2013, the FBI said on Monday.

This drop is part of a trend in which violent crimes have continued to decline for years.

Crimes are the lowest they have been since the 1970s. The number of crimes in the country for 2013 is an estimated 1.16 million.
