It’s that time of year again. No, not when holiday songs are playing before the holidays (though that’s happening too). It’s time for the American Music Awards.

The event at the Nokia Theater is just around the corner, and among the many categories, there’s Single of the Year. The nominees this year are Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX (“Fancy”), John Legend (“All of Me”), MAGIC! (“Rude”), Katy Perry featuring Juicy J (“Dark Horse”) and Pharrell Williams (“Happy”).

It's tough to choose between the nominees based on the selection, considering they’re all radio-popular artists. Though Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX’s song “Fancy” has been heard on the radio loads of times and has been featured in TV ads, it looks like the beef is between John Legend and Pharrell Willaims.

If one doesn’t win Single of the Year, there’s still some a chance to win Favorite Male Artist for Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B. Legend has had a busy 2014 with his tour, and Pharrell progressed with his career as the new judge on “The Voice.” It's a tough call—who doesn't like a soft love song and an upbeat song about being happy?

Then again, the award could go to Katy Perry. Her song “Dark Horse” made it to No. 1 on Billboards’ Hot 100. According to Billboard, this is Perry’s ninth Hot 100 No. 1. The song is found on her “PRISM” album—the album to which we saw “Roar” become a radio success.

On Sunday, some fans will be excited and happy while others slightly disappointed to see the artist they voted for lose. It’s all friendly competition at the AMAs as we see artists cheer for one another in the crowd.

No matter the winner, all are talented and popular to make the list of nominees.
