Jose Luis Abarca, the former mayor of a Mexican town, and his wife, Maria de los Angeles Pineda Villa have been detained after nearly 40 days on the run. The couple are allegedly behind the disappearance of 43 students who may have been trying to disrupt an event in the town of Iguala on Sept. 26.

According to Iguala police officers, the former mayor ordered them to stop the students from protesting Maria’s speech. The students have been missing ever since. The public hope the authorities can find clues to the students' whereabouts from the detained couple.
