Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Metro officials held a ground-breaking ceremony Friday, Nov. 7 for the planned four-mile extension of the city's Purple Line. Three new stations will be built, extending the rail line from the existing Wilshire/Western stop to Beverly Hills.

The Purple Line extension has a total of $4 billion allocated for the project and is slated to be completed by 2023. The full construction, which ends the line near UCLA, will be complete in 2035.
