Andrew Garfield will star in Mel Gibson’s direct oral film “Hacksaw Ridge,” a true story during WWII.

Nothing is set in stone, but if the movie does begin filming, Garfield will play Private First Class Desmond T. Doss. Based on a true story, he is known for winning a Congressional Medal of Honor, though he refused to bear arms on religious grounds.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film has been in talks for about 13 years. Back then, the film was under Disney, it was to be directed by Randall Wallace and would have been titled “The CO.”

Now, if successful, Gibson will direct the film with Brian Oliver and Tyler Thompson producing. Filming will begin next year.

Gibosn hasn’t directed a movie since 2006, when he did “Apocalypto” and recently finished shooting the thriller “Blood Father.”

We’ve seen Garfield play in different roles, like “Never Let Me Go,”  "The Amazing Spider-Man” movies and his upcoming film (which was presented at the Toronto Film Festival) “99 Homes.” This war film is a new step for him, even if we want to see him play more comedic roles like his girlfriend, Emma Stone

Similarly, we’ve seen Gibson play a wide range of roles, from “The Patriot” and “Hamlet” to “What Women Want.”

This duo wasn’t exactly predictable, but they are both talented enough to make a great war movie together, considering there have been so many war films, that they have become tougher and tougher to create so they’re not all similar.
