Television has been a source of inspiration since its inception. So, it should come as no surprise that it also serves up just as much fashion advice as magazines. Take a trip down memory lane with our round-up of the 7 most fashionable TV characters. Did your favorite make the cut?

Jess Day, "New Girl"

Jess pulls off the cute, schoolteacher look like no one else can. She keeps her colorful bows and polkadots grounded with black tights and bright toggle coats.

Hilary Banks, "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air"

“Daddy, can I have $300?” is a phrase we are used to hearing from the sitcom character. With style as amazing as hers, that $300 is really more of an investment. Hilary played the role of a Bel-Air princess perfectly, wearing Chanel suits and sleek slip dresses paired with short gloves and fun hats as her daily accessories.

Lucy Ricardo, "I Love Lucy"

Viewers usually do not remember Lucy for her wardrobe as much as they do for her humor and antics. However, she is a 50s fashion icon in her own right. She wore the staples of the era—full skirts, bow-tie shirts, headscarves, cardigans and pearl necklaces—but she also borrowed from the boys and made menswear-inspired outfits look feminine.

Barney Stinson, "How I Met Your Mother"

Barney knew a well-tailored suit was the pinnacle attire of a well-dressed man. Whether you are working, declaring your love to your soulmate or picking up chicks at the bar, make sure you suit up!

Olivia Pope, "Scandal"

You have to be a special kind of woman to capture the heart of the President of the United States, especially if he is married. However, Olivia does not succumb to overly sexual and revealing attire. Instead, she shows she wears the pants in the relationship and her professional life with a plethora of pantsuits, capes, statement coats and the occasional designer gown. Kerry Washington and "Scandal" costume designer Lyn Paolo also teamed up with The Limited to create a line of clothes inspired by the hit TV show for all the gladiators-in-training.

Blair Waldorf, "Gossip Girl"

Blair made headbands and patterned tights cool again and helped the preppy style reach new popularity. Her closet was always filled with polished designer clothes that worked well in and out of prep school. Queen B always looked put-together with just a hint of sex appeal; who else can wear lace thigh highs to school under a pencil skirt?

Carrie Bradshaw, "Sex and the City"

Carrie Bradshaw epitomizes what many women in New York want to be: a columnist that somehow has the income to live in an amazing apartment in Manhattan and buy designer clothes and Manolos. Her unique, albeit sometimes kooky, outfits have earned Carrie the title of most fashionable TV character multiple times. Perhaps it is because of her free spirit and almost childlike playfulness when it comes to getting dressed. Who else would wear a tutu skirt and heels to visit the Eiffel Tower?
