A good piece of film music allows audiences to completely submerge themselves into the atmosphere of the film. A great piece of film music becomes leaves a footprint of the movie in audiences' mind and becomes the highlight of the film. What would "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Batman Begins" or "The Holiday" be without the main theme? Take a look at some of the best works of Hans Zimmer, one of the most ingenious film composer of our time.

"Interstellar" (2014)

"Interstellar" is a film heavily set in space, a completely silent surrounding. It becomes a challenging task for the film composer to both allow the authenticity while pulling audiences along with music notes. To prepare for the score, Christopher Nolan, the director, and Hans Zimmer started working on the score two years prior to its release as opposed to the common practice of the composer being the last stage of post-production. Nolan gave Zimmer one day to work on a theme music just by giving him a preliminary idea of "Interstellar" and what Zimmer came up with, become a score heavily based on what become the core emotion of the film - the relationship of the father and daughter.

"Pirates of the Caribbean" (2003)

Played at the beginning of the credits, the song "He's a Pirate" became an instant hit and a popular representation of the film series itself. The song has over 3 million views on YouTube and was even used as one of the musical themes in the video game "Kingdom Hearts II". Although the score was said to be similar to that of "Gladiator", it becomes a renowned theme for the swashbuckler genre.

"The Dark Knight" (2008)

Following "Batman Begins", this was the second time Zimmer collaborated with Nolan on film score. According to Zimmer, the "Batman" theme was purposely introduced at the end of the first movie to pave way for the sequels. Being one of the first successful superhero franchise in the last decade, "The Dark Knight" trilogy was brought to life with this foreboding yet heroic theme played by the cello. One of the songs "Why So Serious", Joker's theme, was composed using razor blades on string instruments to create the unsettling, suspenseful and torturing atmosphere. The score won the Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.

"Gladiator" (2000)

The "Gladiator" soundtrack is one of the best selling film scores of all time. Through the use of female wailing vocals, Zimmer created a battle waltz that was brought to life within the film. Lisa Gerrad's voice in "Elysium" has an exotic, epic flavor, which played a great role in bringing the audiences into the ancient war empire Rome. The album won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score and was nominated for the Academy Award and BAFTA Award.

"The Holiday" (2006)

Other than action films, Zimmer also scores for different genres of films, one of which is romantic comedies like "The Holiday", animated feature films like "Kung Fu Panda" and "The Lion King". One of the theme songs in "The Holiday" is "Gumption", a light, happy, mellifluous tune that symbolizes the eventual happy ending. *Spoilers* This song was played when Cameron Diaz's character realizes she finally fell in love and was on her way to fight for it. The quick, pleasantly intense notes musically convey her feelings as she runs towards Jude Law's character.*Spoilers*
